Art Quote Of The Day – Pablo Picasso

on Fri Jan 03 2025

The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls. – Pablo Picasso
Art: It’s Everywhere, Even in Your Fridge

Art: That elegant feather duster we all need to sweep the mundane from our souls – at least that’s what the great Pablo Picasso said. If he were in our homes, he’d probably criticize the dust bunnies under our couch and instruct us to wield a brush at least once a week.

Art isn’t just for museums and fancy galleries, oh no! Art can be anywhere: on the fridge, where your three-year-old nephew’s latest masterpiece proudly hangs (yes, those are the newest scribbles, held on by a mere magnet), to the unintentionally comical “artworks” found online. Who doesn’t know the viral cat pictures that everyone shares with overwhelming enthusiasm? Art to chuckle at!

You could say that every coffee mug we use is a small art installation. Whether it’s the food remnants on the rim or the cute pattern left by the last piece of sugar, everything tells a story. “I had breakfast this morning and enjoyed the love of my life – my coffee – from an uncomfortable mug.”

Sometimes we think the purpose of art is to explore metaphysical themes and illuminate the deepest abysses of our existence. In reality, the real reason might simply be: “Which picture looks best on the next Zoom meeting?” Thus, we have also established the creation of the perfect background as the new main goal of contemporary art.

But painting, sculpture, and even the avant-garde installation techniques are nothing compared to pleasing the family when they’re invited over for dinner. Nothing beats the artistic act of cutting damn broccoli into heart shapes just to hear that “eating art” is a new form of art. Don’t forget the tried and true “my-plate-is-full-of-art” strategy to consume more vegetables!

So yes, art is there to dust off our souls. And while we ponder the deeper meanings, don’t forget that sometimes the best art simply consists of a broad smile or a hearty laugh. Next time you think about art, get creative – maybe with a watercolor set of your own or a piece of creatively shaped pasta. It’s time to cleanse the soul and have a good time at the same time. Art lives in all of us – even in our fridge!
