Brown’s bravery shone during the Battle of Flers–Courcelette in September 1916. His actions earned him the prestigious Victoria Cross, a testament to his valor. Tragically, his life was cut short during the Battle of Le Transloy, and his Victoria Cross was awarded posthumously.
Today, on what would have been his 133rd birthday, we reflect on Brown’s legacy—a commitment to his country and an unyielding spirit. He was the first New Zealand soldier to receive the Victoria Cross on the Western Front, making his story one for the ages.
