🦕 The Mostly Straight-Up Saga of Massospondylus

If you’ve ever tried to describe a dinosaur to someone who thinks “Jurassic” is just a fancy coffee order, you’ve probably met Massospondylus. This early Jurassic sauropodomorph hails from southern Africa.

📜 Origin Story

Named by Richard Owen in 1854, it became one of the first dinosaurs to be named. The original fossils didn’t survive a WWII bombing raid in London — but more specimens followed. Two species exist: M. carinatus and M. kaalae. 🧐

📐 Size & Shape

4 to 6 meters long, with a long neck, small head, and slender body. It walked on two legs — a lanky, bipedal herbivore strutting the savanna. 🦒

🍃 Diet & Lifestyle

Plant-eater with flexible growth rates tied to food availability — a prehistoric “glow up or slow down.” 🌿

🥚 Eggs

Clutches of eggs found, some with embryos — even dinosaurs nested and cared. 🥰
