The Cold Star-Forming Cloud

First, meet the Corona Australis Cloud, a collage of reflection and emission nebulae that snuggles to the left in today’s image. At a brisk 430 light years away, it’s one of the closest star-forming nurseries Earth can boast. The cloud contains gas cooled to astonishing depths—down to about -260 Celsius (-440 Fahrenheit).
