It’s a meteor, enjoying a very brief moment of stardom in a long exposure of the Great Lacerta Nebula. If you zoom into the center of the image, you’ll see a red wink of light that hints at something far humbler than a comet or a shooting star with a grand backstory: a meteoroid, likely a small pebble, burning its way through our atmosphere.
